InterviewZain Faiez Is Mixing Cultures, And Dropping A Track Every Friday
He gave us one word for Project Triangle. Then he explained what the new album is actually for.
Watch the videosIt had been a while since Zain Faiez was last in the MDLBEAST Radio studio, and Ninyaz said so before he had got his headphones on.
She started where we last had him properly: Doritos Presents Project Triangle, powered by MDLBEAST Radio, which he took part in last year. One word to sum it up.
“Different.”
The album has a job to do

The new record is called Mixing Cultures, and the title is a brief rather than a mood. Zain said the idea has been sitting in his head since the day he started.
He did not just want to sing. He wanted to fuse something of ours with something from outside, and he was specific about the collision he is after: Khaleeji Arabic against techno, local against foreign, in the same track.
That is the whole project in one line, and it explains a catalogue that already runs from Arabic-titled singles to English ones without appearing to notice the join.
Three weeks, no gaps
Then the release plan, which is the most Zain thing about the whole conversation.
Friday at three in the afternoon, a track. Then another the Friday after. Then another.
He was clear that the three weeks would not be left empty, and that every one of them would carry something new. His own summary of the strategy was that he intends to spoil his listeners a little.
The first of them, Hakuna Matata (هاكونا ماتاتا), landed that same week.
He rapped before he left
He finished the way he would probably finish anywhere, off the top, live in the studio.
Hakuna Matata by Zain Faiez is out now and in rotation on MDLBEAST Radio. Tune in across the Kingdom on 104.8 Riyadh, 98.1 Jeddah, 97.4 Dammam and 87.6 Abha, or listen live at mdlbeastradio.com.
